Three decades after the movies were launched for the entertainment of the masses, movie trailers came into existence. First shown in the US in November 1913, a movie trailer is a commercial advertisement for any upcoming movie that will release soon in movie theaters. The term 'trailer' originated from the fact they were screened after the screening of any film. But over the years upcoming movie trailers were screened before any movie as it was observed that the audiences left the theaters as soon as the movie ended. No matter movie trailers were screened first, the name remained the same. In the history of latest movie trailers, the first ever promotional trailer to be released was for the musical The Pleasure Seekers by Nils Granlund in November 1913. Described as "an entirely new and unique stunt", the promotional film technique soon gained popularity. In 1914 Granlund introduced for the first time upcoming movie trailer for the feature film Charlie Chaplin. With the trend continuing, until 1950s the trailers for the upcoming movies consisted of the key scenes from the feature film narrating a brief regarding the movie. This standard film trailer format is followed till day without fail.
